Approximately one & a half hours from Glasgow or 2 hours from Edinburgh,
Toward Point is situated approximately six miles south of Dunoon on the most southernly tip of the Cowal Peninsula. It is known for its lighthouse which was built in 1812 by Robert Stevenson (Robert Louis Stevensons grandfather) & was looked after day & night by three lighthouse keepers who lived in the adjoining houses. These days, however, the lighthouse is automatic & the houses are now privately owned. The original foghorn was run by diesel engines, but it too is now a private dwelling.
